There are a lot software packages out there that are available to the home user that can be purchased at a reasonable price. What value do you put on your data?

When you value your time in trying to restore lost data without a good program to do it, you find out real quick that the cost of a good program to restore your lost files is peanuts. Never again will I be without a good backup program that backs up my data to a DVD. I know, because I’ve just been there, done that. I was a week manually restoring files from a disk that would not boot.

The Importance of DVD Backup There is one thing that we computer owners need to be concerned about. Having a backup of our important files, like passwords, photos, financial data, etc is of the utmost importance. After all, if our computer is hit with a virus, lightning, or just a disk crash that destroys the boot tract or registry we are in big trouble. The types of files that we should backup depends on how valuable they are. Typically, the following types of files are rated high on our list of valuable files: financial, email address books, digital photographs, downloaded software and music, bookmarks and calendars. There are a many ways to backup your computer files, but the safest way is to burn the data to a DVD. This provides us with a permanent backup copy. How often we do this depends on how much the data has changed since the last backup. With the cost per DVD under a $1.00, frequent backups are not unreasonable. We need to be sure to store the DVD in a jacket or case for protection from scratches. There are a lot of programs available for backup. You can review some of these programs here. It’s better to be cautious than sorry with our important data.
